Youth Recycling Visit

Members of Llantwit Youth Council and Penarth Youth Action visit the Council’s recycling centre at Cowbridge Compost following a joint Plastic Recycling Project.
Young people benefited from visiting the recycling centre and learning about the changes made to recycling which are being rolled out across the Vale of Glamorgan. The Council’s Waste Project Officer explained the changes made from co-mingled recycling to separate recyclable items such as cardboard, paper, glass bottles and plastics, which are collected in different coloured bags. The change is aimed at improving the quality of the materials collected for recycling, which is better for the environment.
In October 2019, over 3500 young people in the Vale voted for their top issue in the annual Make Your Mark campaign. 57% voted for “Protect the Environment” as the issue most important to them. As a result young people who are members of Llantwit Youth Council and Penarth Youth Action have undertaken a project on Plastic Recycling. This has included completing an accreditation on plastic recycling and supporting local initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle. The young people will continue to support Climate Change.
Both Llantwit Youth Council and Penarth Youth Action are projects run in partnership by the Vale Youth Service and their Town Councils. The groups are run to encourage young people to get involved in local decision-making and ensure the views of young people are heard.
