Youth Cabinet meet Cabinet Members

On the 19.11.18 the youth cabinet had their first joint meeting with the Vale of Glamorgan Cabinet. We had a very good discussion about what we have been working on since our election in May, as well as our plans for the next few months. One of our biggest discussions was about Welsh medium education and how we feel about learning Welsh. This was interesting because we have 2 fluent Welsh speakers in the group and we were able to talk about the pros and cons of speaking Welsh such as: future careers; Welsh university courses; speaking Welsh with family members; conversational Welsh and moving to English medium schools for GCSE’s/A-Levels.
One exciting thing we did get to share with Cabinet is our involvement in the Mayor’s Civic Service where we had the opportunity to carry the Mayor’s chain of office and the Youth Mayor read out our Youth Charter. This is a committment that we think the Youth Champion in the Vale should make to all young people. It’s not finished yet, but as soon as it is we will let you know.
The joint meeting was a really good chance to get to know the Cabinet Members and they were very committed to working together and getting us more involved in future consultations. Cllr Penrose also presented members with our Basic First Aid certificate from our training with St John’s Ambulance.
