Youth Cabinet digital meeting 21.07.20

In today’s digital meeting we welcomed Councillor, Kathryn F McCaffer, the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, to discuss how the council plans to reopen. We had told Cllr McCaffer about how lock down has affected young people in the Vale of Glamorgan. We were also able to update Cllr McCaffer on what we have been up to during lock down.
We talked about the Children’s Commissioner for Wales survey called “CoronaVirus and Me”. In May 2020 23,000 Children and Young People in Wales took part in a nationwide Coronavirus and Me consultation, led by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales. The results of the survey have been shared to all the Local Authorities and the national results can be found on the Children’s Commissioner for Wales website.
We discussed the questions asked to young people, which covered key themes and issues surrounding children and young people’s experiences during lockdown including, their health, education, the impact on social aspects of their lives and the needs of specific groups. We were also able to discuss the result findings, which members found really interesting. As well as visiting the Children’s Commissioner for Wales website you can also find out more about the survey so far on the Welsh Government Website here.
Finally we are getting closer to the Q&A event and the final details are being confirmed. If you are a young person or representing a youth group please contact us at Valeyouthcabinet@gmail.com or ask us on twitter at @VOGYouthMayor
We are very excited for the Q&A on the 28th.
