It’s National Democracy Week (14th-18th October) and young people across the Vale will have the opportunity to vote for their 6th Youth Mayor.

National Democracy Week is all about encourage people to get involved in their local community and have a voice in decision making. As a Youth Service we do this by encouraging young people to vote for their Youth Mayor.

The Youth Mayor is the chair of the Youth Cabinet and the spokesperson of the group.  The role of the Youth Mayor includes meeting with local decision makers and ensuring the views of young people are listened to by those in power.  The Youth Mayor also attends ceremonial events and activities on behalf of young people.

This year, there are two candidates from the Youth Cabinet who want to be the next Youth Mayor.  Nishenka Rajapakse and Nikita Wyman have a manifesto which explains what they would like to do as Youth Mayor.  Young people will have ballot paper and will need to cast their vote to have their say.  You can find a copy of the ballot paper below.

The result of the election will be announced on Monday 21st October at the Youth Cabinet meeting by the Leader of the Council.
