The 6th Vale Youth Mayor is announced!

Last night the Leader of the Council, Cllr Neil Moore and Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Lis Burnett attended the Youth Cabinet meeting to announce the results of the Youth Mayor election campaign that took place during National Democracy Week 2019.
Elections were held in 29 different locations throughout the week and over 5006 young people cast their vote. So who is the 6th Youth Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan?
Nishenka Rajapakse was elected the Youth Mayor and Nikita Wyman was elected Deputy Youth Mayor. Both were congratulated on running for election and having passionate manifestos looking to improve work experience opportunities for young people and continuing to campaign for improvements in the Welsh Baccalaureate. Both will work together over the next year to represent the views of young people to decision makers.

After the announcement, Youth Cabinet continued with their monthly meeting which involved a jam packed agenda. There was a big discussion on the Council’s Budget and potential changes to council tax. A new anti-bullying policy was discussed, especially how schools should be recording incidents of bullying.
