‘Covid-19’ and the resulting lockdown has forced Llantwit Youth Council to adjust the way we work. All of our work is currently being held online, via digital task groups and meetings. All of our meetings are held on Microsoft Teams. The meetings have been taking place regularly for the past two months and are similar to the meetings that we would have prior to lockdown. In our meetings, we have discussed project ideas that we could potentially work on this year (2020-2021). In addition, we have completed several consultations, surveys and questionnaires.
The Mayor of Llantwit Major, Gerwyn Thomas, has attended each of our meetings and was complimentary towards the work Youth Council members have undertaken.
What Llantwit Youth Council Have Been Working On…?
‘LYC’ Period Poverty Campaign:
Due to the ‘Covid-19’ pandemic this year, Llantwit Youth Council have been unable to deliver their ‘Period Poverty’ campaign as it was originally planned. Prior to lockdown, Llantwit Youth Council were working towards setting up drop-in sessions, whereby young people could access free sanitary products.
As we were not able to operate on a face-to-face basis delivering drop in sessions, the Youth Council members put forward several ideas on how we could adjust our campaign. It was concluded, we develop information packs on Period Poverty. The information packs have been developed by the Youth Council members themselves. The packs are going to be handed out by VYS practitioners when delivering outreach work. Additionally, a promotion video has been developed and we are now working on a plan regarding how the campaign is going to operate moving forward.
