Yes, that;s right! Young people aged 16+ will be able to vote in the next Senedd Cymru elections that are happenign in Wales in May 2021.  But … you will only be able to vote if you have been registered to vote and are on the electoral register!

This is why the Youth Cabinet have been trying to increase the number of young people aged 16-17 who are registered to vote in the Vale.

We have been working closley with the Electoral Services department in the Council to support workshops that give young people the opportunity to learn more about voting and the chance to register to vote. We have supported workshops in Ysgol Y Deri, St Richard Gwyn PSE Day and had planned to visit Stanwell and #Youthy18+ but this has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have also planned a social media campaign to try and encourage young people to register to vote but we have decided to postpone this and launch it during the build up to the next elections.

You can currently register to vote at the age of 16 but you do need your national insurance number.  It’s so easy to register, it takes less than 5 minuntes and you can do this online .
